Saami Brothers Qawwali

The Saami Brothers Qawwal enthralled a select audience comprising prominent civil society representatives, academics, activists, journalists and dignitaries at the soft launch of HIVE [karachi], a joint venture of Pakistan Youth Alliance (PYA) and Khudi Pakistan, organizations that have been working for several years to establish a culture of democracy and pluralism throughout the country.

HIVE [karachi] is a first-of-its kind space in Pakistan – dedicated to training, research, resource development and social innovation to counter extremism and work towards an inclusive, peaceful society.

The event, ‘Sulh-e-Kul – Strengthening Diversity’, opened with remarks by Syed Ali Abbas Zaidi (Executive Director at HIVE), who spoke about the need and aims of this venture. Following this, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami – one of Pakistan’s leading classical vocalists – stated that since its inception Qawwali has been a tool to promote peace and inter-faith harmony and provide an alternative to religious orthodoxy. The speech was followed by a riveting performance by Saami Brothers.

Saami Brothers Qawwal belong to the 705-year-old best known Gharana of Qawwali, the Qawwal Bachon Ka Gharana of Delhi.
